Vonore firefighter heads west to help with wildfires

VONORE (WATE) – Seventy-two large wildfires are now burning in the West and another East Tennessee firefighter is joining the efforts to fight the flames.

The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department says Capt. Joe Bivens has been deployed to the “Cougar” fire in Idaho. He left Friday afternoon and arrived Saturday.

The department’s chief is asking for prayers for Capt. Bivens’ safety and posting updates on Facebook.

Crews from the Smokies are also heading out west. A group headed to Oregon driving an engine full of equipment. Six firefighters had already been sent to join in the effort.
