KNOXVILLE (WATE) – An elderly driver says he put his car into neutral when the car went into drive before sliding down an embankment and crashing into a balcony, according to the Knoxville Police Department. The driver and the passenger were transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The incident happened at Sutters Mill Apartments, 1101 Sutters Mill Lane, around 8 a.m.
The driver, 82-year-old Robert West, thought his accelerator was stuck when he put the car into reverse, police said. The car backed up rapidly, hit the car behind him.
West thought he put the car into neutral, but police said it actually went into drive. His car went down the embankment and hit the balcony, causing it to collapse.

They were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center to be checkout out.
No charges will be filed, according to police.
