Knoxville woman killed, 3 others injured in Oak Ridge crash

OAK RIDGE (WATE) – A Knoxville woman was killed and three others were injured after a crash Monday afternoon in Oak Ridge.

The accident was reported around 3:22 p.m. on S. Illinois Avenue near Centrifuge Way. Oak Ridge police say a Toyota van driven by Marguerite Windham of Knoxville was going southbound and crossed into the northbound lanes for an unknown reason.

Windham’s van hit a Mazda SUV driven by Philip Cope of Knoxville. A Ford Focus driven by Puya Rahmanian of Oak Ridge then struck Windham’s vehicle, causing Cope’s Mazda to overturn.

Cope’s passenger June Cope was taken to Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge where she was pronounced dead. Philip Cope, Rahmanian and Windham were all taken to local hospitals.

The road was closed for more than two hours while police investigated the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
