Report: Sevierville man arrested on gun charges in Washington D.C.

Asked to see the White House and was found to have an arsenal of weapons in his pickup truck

WASHINGTON DC (WATE) – A Sevierville man was arrested on gun charges earlier this week after he asked to see the White House with an arsenal of weapons in his vehicle.

According to a report from the Washington Post, Steve Oney, 59, told police he had stopped in DC for an overnight visit. He pulled his truck over on Independence Avenue and asked an officer where the White House is.

A court document obtained by the Post states the officer saw a propane tank and what appeared to be an ammunition box in the back of the truck. A search turned up three guns, a knife with 12-inch blade and a large amount of ammunition.

Oney was charged with carrying a gun without a license ordered to stay away from all congressional buildings. It’s not clear if he had any ulterior motive.
