Manhunt underway in Sevier County for car thief

KODAK (WATE) – Sevier County Sheriff’s Department said they are searching for a man suspected of stealing at least three vehicles at a rental property in Kodak.

Sevier County Sheriff’s Department Chief Detective Jeff McCarter said Tuesday deputies were checking out a tip about a stolen vehicle at a house in Kodak when the man bolted. The house was located just North of Smokies Stadium.

Chief Detective McCarter said the man sprinted from his porch and jumped his neighbors fence, losing his shirt. Deputies tried to stop the man with a Taser, but the man leaped, missing the probes. Deputies searched using K-9’s in the woods behind the man’s house and Knox County Sheriff’s Office searched the area with a helicopter, but were unable to locate the man.

A small amount of meth was found by investigators as well as a second car that had been reported stolen. Information found at the house lead deputies to a location down the street where a third stolen vehicle was recovered.

Detective McCarter said they know the identity of the man, but they are not releasing it at this time. WATE 6 On Your Side is working on getting a suspect description.
