Chattanooga man killed in McMinn County crash, fire

ATHENS (WATE) – A Chattanooga man was killed in a crash Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 75 near Athens.

According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Scott Riley, 24, was going north around 1:06 p.m. near mile marker 48 when he, for an unknown reason, lost control of his vehicle, went into the median and struck a tree.

When troopers arrived on scene, the vehicle was on fire with the driver still inside. Riley was later pronounced dead. He was wearing a seat belt. No other vehicles or persons were involved in the crash.
