KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knoxville Police Department arrested a potential-rape victim and charged her with assault of a man at a Knoxville church. The woman told police the man raped her.
According to a preliminary investigation, Knoxville police said a 53-year-old man picked up a 45-year-old woman and took her back to his residence in Powell where they engaged in sexual relations. Police said the man then refused to pay for the woman’s services.
The man went jogging in Downtown Knoxville, parking at a church on the 500 block of North Broadway, according to police. When he returned his tire was flat. While he was changing the tire, police said he was attacked by the woman and another man.
On Thursday at 7:40 p.m., when police arrived at the church they found an unoccupied Honda with a flat tire, a pool of blood on the ground near the trunk, blood smears on the vehicle and a tire iron lying on the ground near the blood. Officers found the man, who suffered from head and face injuries, behind a nearby building. He was transported to UT Medical Center for treatment.
While police were investigating the assault call, they received a 911 call that a rape victim had showed up at the mission. She said she had been picked-up by a male and driven to another location where she was raped by the 53-year-old man. Police said the man’s cell phone was found in possession of the female.
Witnesses told police they saw the woman and a second man beating the assault victim with a tire iron. The second assault suspect, a male, has not been identified.
The female was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault after she was evaluated at a hospital. Her bond was set at $8,000. Knoxville police notified Knox County Sheriff’s Office of the rape allegation, since it occurred in their jurisdiction.
