Knoxville Track Club introduces Youth Greenway series

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The Knoxville Track Club presents the KTC Youth Greenway Series beginning July 25 at 8 a.m.

The events will take place every two weeks and are for children ages 12 and under. For the first two events, children 8 and under will run .5 miles then .75 in the third event and 1 mile in the fourth event. Only the last event will be officially timed for this group. Children 9 to 12 years old will run a timed mile at each event. The events will take place on July 25, August 8, August 22, and on September 5. The last event will be held in conjunction with KTC’s Hal Canfield Memorial Milefest.

“We hope this provides a great way for kids to run local events organized just for them,” said KTC Executive Director Kristy Altman. “We want to introduce kids to the joys of running on our greenways in a way that is safe and fun for them.”

Participants will receive a ribbon after each run along with snacks. In addition, those participating in 3 of the 4 events will receive a medal and special prize after their third event. Those participating in 4 of the 4 events will also receive a certificate of achievement and be recognized during the awards ceremony at the Hal Canfield Memorial Milefest.

Cost is $10 per event or $35 to register for all four events at one time. Registration is open online.
