Top eaters gear up for Hooter’s wing eating championship

KNOXVILLE (WATE) — The “Hooter’s Worldwide Wing Eating” championship is back again and the top contenders are in Knoxville, Sunday afternoon. This is the restaurant chain’s fourth year of running the competition.

Starting at 4 p.m. the Hooter’s at 8050 Kingston Pike will host the qualifying event for the championship, which will take place in Florida on July 25.

WATE 6 On Your Side’s Kayla Strayer sat down with one of the contenders, the thirteenth eater of the world Eric “Badlands” Booker.

Several other top eaters are coming to Knoxville to qualify for the championship, including the number one eater in the world, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut. The top three eaters in the qualifying event will move on to the finals.
