KNOXVILLE (WATE) — Knoxville Zoo officials have announced the name and genders of their newest members in the gorilla exhibit.
The one-month-old gorillas, a boy named Ubuntu and a girl named Obi, are the first gorillas to be born in the Knoxville Zoo and the first born in the the state of Tennessee in nearly 30 years.
Zoo officials say they are Western lowland gorillas, an endangered animal found in the lowland forests of central Africa. Their names, Ubuntu and Obi, both have African roots. Ubuntu was born to his mother Machi, Obi to her mother Hope.
