‘Mission: ABLE,’ Tennessee Smokies game benefits paralyzed veterans

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – WATE 6 On Your Side is teaming up with Food City and the Tennessee Smokies to raise money for paralyzed veterans in East Tennessee.

Buy tickets online for the Smokies 5:05 p.m. Sunday game against the Biloxi Shuckers using the “MISSION” promo code and the Smokies will donate $3.50 to the Paralyzed Veterans of America’s Mission: ABLE campaign. The campaign helps paralyzed veterans receive care, benefits and job training to ensure they are able to live with their disability.

Food City is also teaming up with seven-time NASCAR Champion, Richard Petty, to benefit the campaign. All Food City stores are collecting donations through August 5. Customers wishing to make a contribution can select the desired dollar amount at the register.

“They have helped raise significant funds over the last four years, and our goal is to raise even more this year – because the need is ongoing and we’re responsible for lending a hand,” said Petty

The Paralyzed Veterans of America said they are on a mission to change lives and build brighter futures for seriously injured heroes. They hoping to enlist Americans to help ensure paralyzed veterans are provided the physical care needed to live a healthy life.

The organization said 100 percent of the donations collected will benefit veterans in the East Tennessee region.
