Appling, Ga. (WJBF) – A woman was taken to a hospital early Monday morning after mistakenly drinking liquid air freshener she thought was moonshine, police say.
According to the incident report, Neil Berry from northwest of Augusta, Georgia, told a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputy his estranged wife, Sandra Joyner Berry, was at his house before he got home from work late Sunday night.
Berry stated he came home and his wife told him she drank something from under the cabinet, which was in a plastic water bottle and labeled ‘apple cinnamon.’ She told him that she thought it was left over moonshine when she drank it.
Neil Berry told deputies he told her that it was air freshener for the car. Then, he said he observed his wife sit down at the table because she became dizzy. Berry said he began researching side effects of drinking air freshener when Sandra Berry fell out of her chair.
He called the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and placed Sandra Berry in his vehicle to meet with deputies at a Publix. The responding deputy saw the woman slumped over and having labored breathing.
Sandra Berry was then transferred to a local hospital. Her condition remains unknown.
