SEYMOUR (WATE) – A Sevierville man was killed Sunday after the truck he was riding in struck him as it was going in reverse, according to officials.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports 33-year-old Bradley H. Justus of Sevierville was riding in the bed of a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck driven by Seymour resident Randall Kennedy, 40, on North Shiloh Road around 2 a.m. when the driver of a vehicle in front of Kennedy slammed on breaks.
To avoid hitting the vehicle, Kennedy swerved into the other lane and both vehicles came to a stop. At that time, Justus jumped out of the truck bed, which went into reverse, striking him, according to state troopers
Neither Kennedy nor the second passenger, also seated in the bed of his truck, Cassie D. Ingle, 30, of Seymour, were injured.
Charges and citations are pending, authorities said.
