KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Barring an unlikely write-in win, Mayor Madeline Rogero will serve a second term as Mayor of Knoxville.
The deadline for turning in petitions was Thursday. The Knox County Election Commission said Buck Cochran, Rogero’s only opponent, withdrew his candidacy.
Through her term Rogero became the first Knoxville Mayor to march in a gay pride parade. In January, she was invited to the white house with 200 other mayors from across the country. At the event, she was singled-out for her goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Through her time as Mayor, Rogero has also worked to encourage growth of city parks and worked to reduce blighted properties.
