MARYVILLE (WATE) – Despite the rain, the first ever, Hops in the Hills debuted in Downtown Maryville.
The two day festival, part of the Summer on Broadway celebration took place at 121 West Broadway Avenue. Friday there was a brew crawl, provided by Knox Brew Tours. On Saturday there was a brew festival featuring several local and regional craft breweries.
“The community and beer aficionados will have the opportunity to experience the incredible craft brews that are right in our own backyard,” said Kim Mitchell, director of tourism operations for Blount Partnership. “In 2013, Tennessee ranked 23rd in the nation with craft breweries. We know East Tennesseans, along with residents of the surrounding states, share an affinity for craft beer, and we’re excited to be able to provide an avenue for them to make memories while enjoying quality brews.” Mitchell said she hopes the festival will become a yearly event.
On Saturday, those attending the festival were able to attend two seminars, led by Trent Gillar of Hellbender Hops, on growing hops and home brewing techniques.
