SEYMOUR (WATE) – Rescue crews in South Knox County rescued a woman who was trapped after a tree fell on a house.
Crews were called to a home on South Ridge Road just after 8 p.m. Thursday. The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department says on a tree fell on a home during severe storms, trapping a woman inside.
Officials say the woman was watching TV at the time. The tree was 100 feet tall and four feet in diameter. The woman’s husband was also inside at the time but made it out on his own.
The woman was rescued around 9:30 p.m. and taken to UT Medical Center. Officials say she was talking and alert, but has what is being described as extensive lower leg injuries.
A dozen vehicles were on scene along with 15 personnel from the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department.
The home is described as a total loss. The Red Cross is assisting the family. A pet died in the accident, according to firefighters.
