DANDRIDGE (WATE) – An East Tennessee man going for a walk with his metal detector made a surprising discovery about a month ago, finding a class ring.
Cody Scarlett found the ring about a month ago when he was walking around Douglas Lake with his mom. He says the ring was a couple inches below ground and the initials R.E.S. were carved into the side.
He was able to track down the original owner through old yearbooks and found out the ring is from 1964 from Maury High School in Dandridge. A post to Facebook led him to Ronnie Seaman.
Scarlett says he was touched to be able to give it back.
“It’s worth more to me that I made somebody happy like that. I love finding things that have a history, and a story behind it, and what a great story this has behind it,” said Scarlett.
Scarlett and Seaman have plans to meet up sometime in the next few months. Seaman says he lost the ring about a week after he bought it for about $150.
