CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WTVC) – Two four-year-old girls were injured while playing in the front yard of a Chattanooga home Thursday.
Chattanooga Police told WTVC a car drove by the house around 1 p.m., firing several shots at the girls. The children were driven to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Many say they can’t believe what police are calling a drive by shooting happened just steps from their front door. “I really don’t like the fact that you would shoot somebody and not hit them but shoot the children in the process, you know the children are out there playing so why would you even shoot that way,” Charles Clark said.
Mayor Andy Berke issued this statement:
“I am deeply saddened and outraged by this act of violence. My thoughts are with the families of these girls, as well as their friends and neighbors. I know the police are doing everything they can to catch those responsible, but we need the community’s help. I encourage anyone with any helpful information to call and share it with police.”
Police Chief Fred Fletcher said police do not have many leads on the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call Chattanooga police at (423) 698-2525
