ROCKFORD (WATE) – Two Rockford men were arrested and charged after a missing Knoxville man was found in a wrecked vehicle in Alcoa earlier this week.
David Shawn Mahan, 44, and Richard Houston Magness, 55, are each charged with tampering with evidence, burglary of a vehicle, theft greater than $500 and failure to report the discovery of a dead body.
Bradley A. White, 31, was reported missing the morning of June 6 by his mother. His crashed Dodge Dakota was found in dense foliage on Old Knoxville Highway Tuesday night.
Blount County deputies later learned two men were selling tools that had been reportedly stolen from White’s vehicle. Deputies and Alcoa detectives soon learned that Mahan and Magness had allegedly stolen the tools from White’s vehicle sometime after the crash and before his vehicle was located.
Neither man reported the accident or the discovery of White’s body inside the vehicle. Both were arrested at their homes in Rockford. The stolen tools were also found.
Magness is being held in the Blount County Detention Facility. Mahan was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital where he is being evaluated in the emergency room. Bond amounts and court dates have not been set.
