LA PLATA, Md. (WJLA) – A 24-year-old mother was found by police pushing her dead 3-year-old son in a swing early Friday morning in La Plata, according to authorities.
Police said they received a call just before 7 a.m. saying the woman had been pushing the toddler for “an unusually long period of time,” perhaps even overnight.
The unidentified child, police said, showed no obvious signs of trauma, but was taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Baltimore,where an autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death. The mother, who was not identified by authorities, was taken to an area hospital for a medical evaluation.
La Plata Town Police and Charles County Sheriff’s Office officials arrived on scene to Willis Memorial Park at 500 St. Mary’s Ave. and spotted the woman pushing the deceased child in a swing.
An investigation is ongoing and additional details were not released.
