NEWPORT (WATE) – A Newport man faces charges of driving his lawnmower on the street while intoxicated.
Johnny D. Martin is charged with DUI, unauthorized vehicle on the roadway, driving on a revoked license, violation of the open container law and violation of the implied consent law.
A Newport Police Department arrest report says officers were sent to Filbert Street Tuesday just after 7 p.m. for an intoxicated man driving a lawn mower pulling a trailer. Officers found Martin on the lawn mower, holding a cup that appeared to have an alcoholic beverage in it. He also smelled of alcohol.
Officers say Martin refused field sobriety tests, but admitted he had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. Martin’s driver’s license had been revoked on December 3, 2013, for DUI.
