MARYVILLE (WATE) – It was a beautiful day for strawberry picking Friday in Maryville. Rutherford Farms says earlier in the spring, the cold temperatures were frustrating, but that’s all changed.
Last weekend, Rutherford Farms said they picked more than 800 gallons of strawberries a day. One family visited for the first time Friday and was already planning what to do with their berries.
“We were talking strawberry shortcake, strawberry pie and probably jam. Definitely something yummy,” said Patti Salvador of Knoxville.
It’s past peak season now, but Rutherford Farms says they anticipate picking about 200 to 300 gallons of strawberries a day. Lots of crowds are expected this weekend for Memorial Day, so if you’re interested be sure to get there with your family early.
