This Mother’s Day is a hard one for Gary Manuel and his family.

“Usually Mother’s Day, we party and have a good time,” said Gary Manuel.

“It’s just isn’t the same anymore,” he said. “There’s nothing to celebrate.”

Every year for the holiday, the family normally gathers at his house, but it’s quiet with no kids playing basketball or riding bikes.

“Usually Mother’s Day, we party and have a good time,” said Manuel.

Manuel’s granddaughter, Brittany, says Christy Manuel would do anything for her little ones.

“If anything happened to her kids she would be right there asking ‘are you ok?’ or ‘are you hurt?’ anything,” she said.

As Manuel looks at a picture of his loved ones, he thinks about how great of a mother Christy was as well.  He misses her and his grandchildren.

“Christy was always there for them, she was always looking out for her kids,” said Manuel.

To honor Christy and the family this mother’s day, they have a picture on their front porch for everyone to see and the lost loved ones will forever remain in their hearts. Some of the children who died in the crash attended Greenback School. Grief counselors will be at the school Monday to help students and faculty.
