LENOIR CITY (WATE) – While it could be months before Blue Bell Ice Cream hits store shelves, workers at the company’s distribution center in Lenoir City are still hard at work.
Joe Robertson, a spokesman with Blue Bell, said that all employees at the company’s plant, located at 107 Pawnook Farm Road are working to maintain the facility and complete special projects.
Blue Bell said they could be back in operation by the end of the month, but Robertson said once the plant starts making ice cream, it will take a while to get inventory back up to distribute to stores. He says they will start with a limited number of flavors.
Blue Bell shut down their plants after a listeria contamination was linked to three deaths by the FDA. Thursday, a government investigation found the company knew about Listeria contamination dating back to March of 2013 and continued to ship ice cream produced in the plant.
The plant has pulled all of its products from shelves and is currently shut down according to Blue Bell.
