Tenn. 8th Judicial District Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force director terminated amid investigation

JACKSBORO (WATE) – Eighth Judicial District Attorney General Jared Effler announced Wednesday he has terminated the employment of Melvin Bayless, former director of the district’s Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force.

Bayless had been suspended since March 4 amid an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation into procedures and protocols of the task force. At the time, there was an alleged shortage and disposition of evidence and money.
