Ellen Turner of The Love Kitchen passes away

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Ellen Turner, who co-founded The Love Kitchen with her sister Helen Ashe, has died.

The 87-year-old was admitted in the ICU at UT Medical Center on Monday. The Love Kitchen said Wednesday night that she passed away a little after 11 p.m. with Helen and her family by her side.

A funeral and memorial service are currently being arranged by the family. Per Helen’s request, the Love Kitchen will remain open and operating this week.

The sisters both recently celebrated their 87th birthday. The charity has fed the homeless, elderly, disabled and home-bound in East Knoxville for more than 20 years.
