KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The Diocese of Knoxville begins a new era this weekend with a ground breaking event for a new church. Catholic leaders from around the world converge on Knoxville to celebrate the new Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Several events are planned this weekend.
Conversion with the Cardinals, presented by the Catholic Diocese of Knoxville is being held Saturday evening at the Tennessee Theater on Gay St. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York Justin Rigali, Archbishop Ameritus of Philadelphia and Cardinal William Levada, successor to Pope Benedict XVI will be on stage for a revealing and entertaining discussion about the Catholic Church. Bishop Richard F. Stika will serve as the moderator for the event. The event time is 7-9 pm. Tickets are selling fast.
On Sunday Mass will be held at 11 a.m. The ground breaking and blessing for the new Cathedral begins at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at 711 S. Northshore Drive. Governor Bill Haslam is expected to attend along with other government officials, business leaders and parishioners from across Tennessee.
