KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The “World’s Largest Grill” is in East Tennessee getting ready for the NASCAR race in Bristol this weekend.
Thursday morning Johnsonville Sausage brought its Big Taste Grill to our WATE Six On Your Side parking lot cooking brats, and explaining how it’s all for a good cause.
“I am Ry the grill master and I tour the United States with the worlds largest grill. It is the best job ever I go all over the United States to big and small parties raising money for charity grilling up Johnsonville brats,” Ryan Allison said.
This weekend at the race volunteers with Speedway Children’s Charities will be cooking the brats on the grill, and they get to keep all the money made.
“Every day is tailgating with the worlds largest grill we’ve got 32 square feet of grilling surface up here the lid alone weighs 6,000 pounds, we can grill 750 Johnsonville brats at a time, 2,500 Johnsonville brats an hour and all those brats go to charity and we’ve raised just under $4 million to date,” Allison said.
They use a special technique to keep all the brats warm called a “brat hot tub”.
“When they’re all done you want to scoop them off the grill and put them right into a foil pan on the grill add a sliced up onion and a stick of flavor it’s actually a stick of butter right into that beer this is beer in that foil pan, turn your grill down to low and it will keep those brats nice and hot for three four hours just keep adding beer as it boils off,” Allison said.
