KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Donors, families and volunteers are fighting back against muscle disease at the MDA Muscle Walk.
The 12th annual MDA Muscle Walk of East Tennessee is Saturday at the Knoxville Zoo. WATE 6 On Your Side Meteorologist Matt Hinkin will emcee the event.
Last year, more than 40,000 people participated in 140 MDA Muscle Walks across the country that raised a record-breaking $8.5 million. Organizers said funds raised help improve the lives of people fighting muscle disease by helping research for treatments and cures.
Dollars raised also go to supports the ALS Clinic at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The organization also hosts a summer camp for kids with muscle disease at The Center of Courageous Kids in Scottsville, Kentucky.
