KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A Knoxville pastor and his church were recently featured in the Fox News national segment “Beyond The Dream” with reporter Kelly Wright.
It was an unexpected interview for Grace Baptist Church pastor Dr. Ron Stewart, but it was one he enjoyed.
“It’s very hard to watch yourself on TV,” said Dr. Stewart.
He was contacted by Fox News reporter Kelly Wright.
“Kelly called me and asked if I would be willing to do a segment with him,” he said.
It was for a story featured in Wright’s “Beyond the Dream” series, a segment focused on people doing positive things in the world.
“Why would he want to talk to me there are thousands of pastors that have a dream,” said Stewart.
But a friend of Pastor Stewart’s put a bug in Wright’s ear.
“He began to mention me and talked about the church here at Grace and what we were doing,” he said.
We caught up with Stewart before his Easter sermon. He said it’s a blessing that his church is being recognized on a national level.
“It was just a fun experience, it was fun,” said Stewart.
Over the past 27 years the churches enrollment has grown from 250 to 5,000 and they even have their own school with close to 1,000 students.
“I didn’t have that dream, my vision was to grow a church but God’s vision I found out is always bigger than our vision,” he said.
It doesn’t stop here. Dr. Stewart plans to continue to go beyond the dream by bringing more resources to the Knoxville community.
“We have just completed a campaign where we’re building a student center and it’s for young people,” said Stewart.
