KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Verizon Wireless has announced it will match all donations up to $10,000 made to the Knoxville Family Justice Center during April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month.
KFJC supports victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Knox County and surrounding areas. They say all money raised through the initiative will directly support those who come to the center for help, as well as to assist in raising awareness in the community of how to access help and provide assistance to those in need.
The Knoxville Family Justice Center is one of only 15 nationwide created by a presidential initiative to help those affected by domestic violence. It has helped over 9,000 victims of domestic abuse since May 2006.
The organization says one in six women in the United States has been sexually assaulted, 68 percent of which are unreported. One in five children are solicited sexually on the Internet and one in 10 are sexually abused before age 18.
One in four women will be the victim of intimate partner violence in her lifetime and domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
You can donate to the Knoxville Family Justice Center online or by mail.
