KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Dozens gathered at the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial on Sunday for a welcome home service in honor of Vietnam War Veterans.
March 29 is National Vietnam Veterans Day, and marks the day when the last combat troops left Vietnam in 1973. The war lasted nine years.
The event was organized by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1078.
The service honored the lives of 58,000 American soldiers killed and more than 1600 with no account of what happened to them. Four of the 1600 are from Knox County.
March 30 is National Welcome Home Veterans Day.
