KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A 17-year-old male was injured during a shooting in North Knoxville on Sunday afternoon.
Knoxville Police responded to a shooting near the 100 block of Hiawassee Avenue around 3 p.m. When they arrived, 17-year-old Marcus Curl of Knoxville was sitting inside of a vehicle with gunshot wounds to his left hand and left abdominal area.
Curl was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with what police say were non-life threatening injuries.
According to a preliminary investigation, the shooting is drug related.
Police are searching for the suspect described as a black male with dreadlocks, who was wearing a green shirt. Officials say he shot Curl and then fled in a late model green Nissan Maxima.
Cruisers and crime scene tape were a jarring sight for Gary Clarkson.
“Didn’t hear a thing. We’re probably 100 feet away and didn’t hear it at all. Opened the door and seen police everywhere,” he said. “It’s too close to home, that’s for sure. We just signed a new lease living here in just the last week.”
Neighbors who didn’t want to speak on camera say they’re also worried about their children and hope to soon see more police cruisers patrolling their neighborhood.
“Kind of crazy knowing my kids are playing on the other side of that fence,” added Clarkson.
