Fundraiser event being held for UT animal outreach program

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A fundraiser is being held Tuesday at the Knoxville Museum of Art to benefit the UT College of Veterinary Medicine’s outreach program.

The event, called “Barbecue, Bidding and Bluegrass: An Evening of Good Behavior With HABIT” will take place Tuesday, March 31, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Featured guest speaker will be Judy Lockhart DiGregorio, author, humor columnist and workshop leader. She has written more than 300 columns and essays and has been published in The Writer, Army-Navy Times and the “Chicken Soup” books.

The event also features a barbecue dinner, silent auction and bluegrass music from The Grassroots Gringos.

WATE 6 On Your Side is a sponsor of the event. Don Dare will serve as emcee.

HABIT, which stands for Human Animal Bond in Tennessee, is one of the country’s oldest animal-assisted therapy programs. Its outreach programs are found in schools, hospitals, cancer treatment centers, behavior facilities, adult day programs, physical rehabilitation centers, assisted living centers, and nursing homes.
