Baumgartner files petition for U.S. Supreme Court to hear appeal


KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Ex-judge Richard Baumgartner’s attorney wants to take his appeal case to the nation’s highest court.

A petition was filed earlier this month asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear Baumgartner’s case.

In October a regional appeals court found that the issues raised in the appeal had already been decided.

Baumgartner became the target of a TBI probe in 2011, focused on trading sex for drugs with a woman who had appeared in his court.

He pleaded guilty to official misconduct and resigned from the bench, then faced a federal prosecution and served six months before completing the sentence at home.
