KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The University of Tennessee and the University of Pittsburgh will play a two-game football series in 2021 and 2022, UT announced Wednesday.
The Panthers will travel to Knoxville to play the Vols at Neyland Stadium on September 11, 2021, while Tennessee will travel to Pitt’s Heinz Field on September 10, 2022.
The game in Pittsburgh will be the first time the Vols have ever played in the state of Pennsylvania, and the 26th different state UT will have played in.
Tennessee and Pitt have played two previous times in 1980 and in 1983. The Panthers won both times.
The two teams are also linked by former Coach Johnny Majors who coached the Panthers from 1973 to 1976 and 1993 to 1996. He guided Pitt to the 1976 National Championship before returning to UT in 1977.
