DANDRIDGE (WATE) – Joshua Cooper, the Hamblen county man wanted for vehicle thefts and arson was captured early Monday morning.
According to the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office, Cooper was captured in Dandridge after he allegedly stole a vehicle in Morristown near a Weigel’s Market.
A pursuit then followed with the assistance of the Morristown Police Department and the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say Cooper was driving the wrong way down Interstate 40 when he hit a tractor trailer head-on near the Swan Bridge construction site. Speed was not a factor in the crash.
Cooper then allegedly jumped out of his vehicle and swam in Douglas Lake where he was soon taken into custody.
Cooper suffered non-life threatening injuries from the crash.
His preliminary arraignment is suspected to take place on Wednesday morning.
