KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The NCAA Selection Committee announced the bracket for the 2015 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship on Monday night. The University of Tennessee Lady Vols will make its record 34th appearance in the tournament.
The Lady Vols (27-5) will be the No. 2 seed in the Spokane Region, hosting the No. 15 Boise State (22-10) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The game will air on ESPN2.
The winners of the championship will meet in the NCAA Second Round at Thompson-Boiling Arena on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. for the right to advance to the Sweet 16 in Spokane, Washington on March 28 and 30.
In the Knoxville portion of the bracket, No. 7 University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (29-3) and No. 10 Pittsburgh (19-11) will play in the other first round game in Knoxville at 11:05 a.m.
The Lady Vols and Boise State game will follow.
Tennessee played Chattanooga in November. The Lady Mocs won the game by four points. The Lady Vols are hoping to make a comeback for that loss and last year’s loss to the University of Maryland, which is the No. 1 seed in the Spokane region.
“Obviously, you don’t want to look ahead, but as soon as you see them on the bracket, you start thinking about we owe them,” said Lady Vols guard Andraya Carter. ” Maryland put it on us last year to say the least. Chattanooga showed us up at their place so we owe them something, but we just have to take it one game at a time.”
All three games in Knoxville will be televised on ESPN2.
This marks the seventh time overall and the third time in four years that the Lady Vols have been a No. 2 seed.
The NCAA Women’s Final Four will be held in Tampa at Amalie Arena on April 5 and 7.
The University of Tennessee won its eighth NCAA title the last time the event was held in Tampa in 2008.
