ETNA, Maine (AP) – Police say a chain-reaction of crashes involving more than 40 vehicles on a snowy stretch of Interstate 95 in Maine left at least 17 people injured.
State Police spokesman Steve McCausland says the pileup in Etna, near Bangor, happened around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and involved several cars, a school bus and a tractor trailer. No fatalities were immediately reported, but some of the injuries were serious.
Both northbound lanes on a 30-mile stretch of highway were closed for five hours, and drivers were instructed to take other exits to avoid the area.
One lane reopened around 12:30 p.m.
Three students were on the school bus, but none was injured.
