Knoxville 6th grader wins national essay competition

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Sofia Tomov of Cedar Springs Home School in Knoxville won a national essay competition with McGraw Hill Financial.

Tomov is among 20,000 students nationwide who took the “invest write” challenge, which was an investment scenario. The sixth grader was chosen because she tackled the problem best among all other middle school students in the country.

“Part of the reason why Microsoft was an excellent long term investment is because it’s making progress toward making a quantum computer. It is a type of computer which could revolutionize scientific discoveries,” said Tomov.

As part of Tomov’s prize, she will get to go to New York with her teachers for a Wall Street Experience where she will visit NASDAQ and Times Square.
