TDOT continues working to keep roads clear

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The Tennessee Department of Transportation is working to keep roads clear Wednesday morning as snow continues to fall across the East Tennessee region.

TDOT crews have been out plowing and icing since before the winter weather arrived on Monday. TDOT says most main routes are slightly snow covered but passable. More remote, less traveled secondary roads are expected to be more dangerous.

Updates by county from TDOT (2 p.m. Wednesday):

  • Anderson: Icy spots on roads. Flurries. Air temp 25°road temp 23°. Crews are on routes treating and plowing
  • Blount: Flurries with air temp at 28 degrees.   All crews are out running their routes plowing and treating any trouble/slick spots. Some crews are out cutting trees. SR 115 (The Dragon) is closed due to down power line, but the electric company has been notified, and they estimated a time of completion to be approximately 3 hours (2 PM). There are no accidents reported at this time.
  • Campbell: I-75 snow, all lanes clear and starting to dry. Shoulders are snow covered and crews are continuing to plow. Ramps are slushy. Heavy winds are causing snow to blow and cause reduction in visibility. Temp 26. Accumulation 3”. Traffic is running good.
  • Claiborne: Heavy snow. All routes have spotty snow coverage. Temp 26. Accumulation 4”. No traffic problems.
  • Cocke: Light snow 33° air temperature, 28 ° road temperature. Crews are out treating the Roads.   Traffic is moving with not problems.
  • Cumberland: Air temp: 21, Road temp: 23. Snow falling, accumulating on roadways. Crews are salting and plowing.
  • Fentress: Air temp: 21, Road temp: 16. Snow falling, accumulating on roadways. Crews are salting and plowing.
  • Grainger: 25° air temperature. Snowing heavy, Crews are on the road de-icing. Approx 3 1/2 inches snow
  • Greene: Temp.27. Sun was shining and snow flurrying. All roads in good shape. Treating cold spots and keeping watch on roads. Interstate just had a squall come through to cover it but it is being treated.
  • Hamblen: 17 Degrees, Light Snow Roads 80 % clear
  • Hancock:Temp. 24. Snowing off and on. Have treated all roads. Roads are running black with very few icy spots. Keeping watch on all roads.
  • Hawkins:  Temp.26. Snowing off and on. Have treated all roads. Roads are running black with very few icy spots. Keeping watch on all roads.
  • Jefferson: 31 ° air temperature. 21° Road Temperature   heavy snow, Most routes covered with snow from new front passing, Crews are out de-icing .
  • Knox: Icy spots on roads. Snowing. Air temp 25°road temp 24°. Crews are on routes treating and plowing.
  • Loudon: Flurries with air temp of 18 degrees and road temp of 26 degrees. Interstates in good shape but secondary roads are wet and slushy.   All crews are out running their routes plowing and treating all roadways. Some crews are out cutting trees. There are no accidents reported at this time.
  • McMinn: Air temp 18, road temp 28. Light snow/flurries. Patches of snow and ice on roads. Crews salting where needed.
  • Monroe: Sunshine/flurries at this time. Air temp at 25 degrees and road temp at 27 degrees. All crews are out running their routes plowing and treating any trouble/slick spots. Roads are wet but in good shape at this time. There are no accidents reported at this time.
  • Morgan: No precipitation at this time. All routes partially snow covered. Crews are continuing to salt and plow. Accumulation 3” in some areas. No traffic problems. Temp 22.
  • Roane: Sunshine at the moment, but snow showers have been coming through the area. Air temp is at 28 degrees. Roads are wet and slushy and all crews are still out running their routes plowing and treating all areas as efficiently as possible. We still have some crews out checking and/or cutting down trees. There are no accidents reported at this time.
  • Scott: Light snow falling. Road conditions are good. Snow on grassy areas. Temp 22. SR 297 (Big South Park Area) is hazardous.
  • Sevier: 29 ° air temperature. Road Temperature is 30° snow, all routes have snow and ice, crews are out de-icing.
  • Union: Icy spots on roads. Snowing. Air temp 20°road temp 18°.Crews on routes treating and plowing.
