KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Gus’s Fried Chicken announced on Wednesday that it has plan to open eight new locations, including one in Knoxville.
“There are more to come, but we have to take it show to ensure you get the same quality and experience you have come to expect from Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken!,” the company announced in a Facebook post.
The chain, famous for it closely guarded hot and spicy batter, got it’s start in the 1950s in the town of Mason, east of Memphis. It currently has 10 locations, six of them in the Memphis-area.
The reaction by fans on social media took local owner Wendy McCrory by surprise.
“I had not idea that we would’ve reached 35,000 people in three hours,” she said.
McCrory opened the Gus’ Downtown franchise location in 2001 and purchased the company from the founders, the Bonner family, over the summer.
“I will be there frying chicken personally for the first several weeks at each store,” she said.
The company said on it’s Facebook page that it will also open restaurants in Atlanta, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Ft. Worth, Kansas City, Chicago and Philadelphia.
