KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A local Knoxville police officer will be awarded the Medal of Valor from Vice President Joe Biden Wednesday in Washington D.C.

Officer Andrew Keith is receiving the award after he saved the life of Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Lowell Russell. Sgt. Russell got into a car crash in March 2012 after a collision with a truck. His patrol car caught fire and officer Keith was able to reach Russell and get him out safely.

The Medal of Valor is the highest national award for valor that can be presented to a public safety officer.

The ceremony will take place around 10:45 a.m. We’ll be streaming it LIVE on our website.
