ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) – A tractor trailer packed full of ramen noodles overturned early Wednesday morning, backing up traffic for hours on I-95 and splaying the popular college meal across the interstate.
North Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of a tractor trailer fell asleep and hit the N.C. Hwy 48 overpass along I-95 near Rocky Mount around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The truck was ripped apart, spilling its contents — packages of Maruchan Ramen Noodle Soup — across the right-hand lane of the interstate.
It took workers about 12-1/2 hours to completely clear the roadway. The noodles were sent to a landfill because they came in contact with diesel fuel.
The driver of the truck did not suffer any injuries and no other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
