Top collegiate gymnastic teams compete in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knoxville is known for the Vols football team, Lady Vols basketball team and soon, perhaps gymnastics.

On Saturday gymnastics team from across the country will compete at the Knoxville Convention Center as part of the Ozone Collegiate Gymnastics Classic.

Shawn Johnson, 2008 Olympic gold medalist and “Dancing with the Stars” champion will be in Knoxville this weekend to speak to athletes.

The competition kicks-off at 8 p.m. and includes NCAA women’s gymnastics teams from top college programs across the country.

Teams competing in the invitation include the nationally-ranked Bowling Green State University, Brigham Young University, University of Alaska-Anchorage and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The invitational will be held in conjunction with the approximately 3,600 Junior Olympic gymnasts, ages 6-18, from 16 different states.

Tickets are 14 dollars for adults and ten dollars for children and available in the main concourse of the Knoxville Convention Center.
