LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (AP) – The mother of one of two Kentucky teenagers suspected in a multi-state crime spree is urging her son to turn himself in and “face the consequences.”
Tammy Martin said Friday she’s crying herself to sleep worrying about the teenagers, who disappeared nearly two weeks ago.
Martin says she hasn’t heard from her son, 18-year-old Dalton Hayes, in more than a week.
She says the teens had been dating for about three months. She says the girl had portrayed herself as 19 years old.
Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins says Hayes disappeared Jan. 3 with 13-year-old Cheyenne Phillips.
Since then, authorities say they believe the couple has traveled to Manning, South Carolina, and Henry County, Georgia. Along the way, law enforcement officials say they’re suspected of stealing multiple vehicles and using stolen checks.
