MADISONVILLE (WATE) – A Vonore Elementary School teacher was arrested in Madisonville last weekend for public intoxication.
Paperwork from the Monroe County Sessions Court says Kristin Leeann Cochran was arrested on January 3.
The Madisonville Police Department says it was notified that a woman was asleep in a car at the intersection of Englewood Road and Highway 68.
When an officer arrived, he found Cochran sleeping in her vehicle in the emergency lane. The officer says she was unsteady on her feet, had blood shot eyes and her speech was slurred.
Because the vehicle was not in motion, she was charged with public intoxication and taken to the Monroe County Jail.
Monroe County school officials say they suspended Cochran without pay on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. She will then be on probation with the school system for one year.
She must attend and complete a substance abuse program by May 1, apologize verbally and in writing to the Monroe County community, and meet with Director of Schools Tim Blankenship for a conference to discuss conditions of continued employment.
Cochran will also not be allowed to transport students in her personal vehicle.
According to the school website, Cochran is a special education teacher at the school.
