KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Most kids asked for an X-Box, Playstation or other tech toy for Christmas, but if they’re spending all evening locked into a game, that’s not healthy for anyone.
There are some local workout classes for kids that are so much fun, they don’t realize they’re actually exercising.
At Bullman’s on Kingston Pike in Knoxville, kids punch, kick, and sharpen their young reflexes. The classes offer a mix of martial arts, boot camp, and a little playground fun thrown in.
Even dodgeball carries with it a teaching moment.
Bullman’s owner, Terry Bullman, says “something as simple as integrity,” can be taught.
“Because a kid gets hit with the ball, and he doesn’t think anybody saw it, and you know we talk about being honest when no one’s looking,” said Bullman.
These workouts are becoming so popular, Bullman’s has expanded them to every weekday afternoon and evening.
If you see a child running and smiling, you have the beginnings of a strong, healthy lifestyle.
Brittney Cole is a personal trainer who works with clients of all ages at Bullman’s.
“You’re starting them early, so it’s not a fight whenever they get into middle school and high school and you’re combating childhood obesity before it begins,” Cole said.
The kids work hard. Cole takes them through their paces, teaching them to move their bodies the right way to help avoid injury.
The classes offer one hour of non stop intensity. The boys and girls move from one heart pumping exercise to the next, feeling the pride that comes with getting stronger.
