KNOXVILLE (WATE) – By now you have probably seen the after holiday sales at the stores. Retailers are doing everything they can to lure you into spending those gift cards you received for Christmas.

Nancy in LaFollette asks: “What are the best bargains in January?”

Despite what you think, not everything will be a pure deal this month. However, there will be some deep discount bargains in January on certain products.

Just in time for your New Year’s resolutions, you will see deep discounts on exercise equipment this month. Included is everything from home fitness equipment like treadmills and elliptical machines to exercise DVDs. The mark down can be up to 70 percent.

Also, most gyms run specials this month to get new members. The savings can be big. The fees waived by gym on memberships purchased in January typically amount to $100 or more.

Whether you decided to shed some pounds at the gym or on the trail, January is good month to score deals on sneakers. Look for offers up to 25 percent off the usual price.

With the roll out of new products at the Consumer Electronics Show this month in Las Vagas, many of last year’s television models will see price drops of up to 20 percent to make room for new inventory. If you are in the market for a new TV or laptop, now is the time to buy.

Just like electronic retailers, home improvement and department stores are ready to clear out last year’s models of major appliances sitting in their warehouses. Check out the sales and clearances on appliances this month for savings around 30 percent.

This is the time of year to stock up on winter clothes and outerwear. You may have to pick through the racks to find the sizes and styles you need, but you’ll see some great discounts and as we go deeper into January. you could see discounts up to 80 percent off.

January is famous for “white sales” that offer great prices on sheets, towels and other home linens. Good sales on linens can be hard to find and you may see discounts from 30 to 60 percent off retails at a lot of stores in January.
