TOWNSEND (WATE) – The new owners of Dancing Bear Lodge announced Monday they are holding a groundbreaking ceremony Friday on the first phase of a rebuilding project.

The ceremony is planned for Friday, January 9 at 10:30 a.m. and will include light refreshments.

The main structure, a lodge with 12 guest rooms, a restaurant, kitchen and offices, was destroyed in a November 2013 fire.

Since then, the lodge has operated as a cabin rental business because none of those structures were damaged.

New owners Mark and Sharon Oldham of Nashville say phase one includes a new restaurant, event center, a 100 by 50 feet event lawn and four new cabins. The total investment in the first phase is $3 million and will generate 10 to 15 new jobs.

Construction on phase one is set to begin on January 12.

Phase two will include a new mountain lodge, while phase three will include extensive updates of the retail area on US 321 and integration of Apple Valley and Dancing Bear.
